What You need:
I love to make these pita pizzas on the bbq on a pizza stone. It just makes it so much fun. If you plan to make them on the bbq, I highly recommend using a pizza stone. Your pita pizza is thin crust and comes out perfectly crispy when you bake it on the stone and on the bbq. The bbq gives you the high heat that is needed to make a delicious pizza. Alternatively, a pizza oven is also ideal. You could even make them in the oven at 450 degrees.Â
The Pizza Sauce
I just love an easy meal and these pita pizzas are not only easy to make but they are also so much fun to make! Instead of buying store bought pizza sauce, why not try this quick recipe. This pizza sauce can be made ahead of time so it can be pulled out when you are ready to make your pita pizzas!
For a different twist on pizza sauce, try using your favourite BBQ sauce. We love this pizza idea! Use bbq sauce on the bottom and then top with cheese, chicken, red onions and peppers. This is a tasty pizza!
One other pizza sauce idea is simply olive oil and a sprinkle of garlic powder, salt and pepper. I love to top with blue cheese, red onions, pears and prosciutto and topped with arugula. Oh my this is a good one.
For the pizza sauce you will need:
- 1 can Tomato Sauce 680ml.
- 1 can Tomato Paste
- 2 tbsp. Dried Oregano
- 1 tbsp. Italian Spice
- 1 tbsp. garlic powder
- 1 tbsp. onion powder
- 1 tbsp. sugar or honey
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
- 1/2 tsp. salt and pepper
Mix everything together, cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
topping ideas:
The skies the limit when it comes to toppings on a pizza! What are your favourite toppings? Here are some of the toppings ideas if you need some inspiration!
- Pepperoni
- Chicken Meatballs
- Peppers: Red, Green, yellow
- mushrooms
- hot pepper rings
- chicken or beef meatballs
- pineapple
- tomatoes
- olives
- fresh basil
- pear
- arugula
- Cappicola
I would recommend having all of your toppings ready before you start the pita pizza night!Â
Let's get cheesy
What can I say, cheese is the BEST! I like to have a few different cheeses for pita pizza night to offer a variety. Here are some cheese ideas that taste wonderful on a pizza!
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Ricotta Cheese
- Parmesan Cheese
- Burrata Cheese
- Goat Cheese
- Mixed Cheddar and Mozzarella
- Blue Cheese (pairs nicely with pears, and red onions)
Preparing the pita pizzas:
Now that you have your sauce(s) ready, we need to prepare the stone. Fire up two sides of the bbq on high heat. Place a pizza stone on the side that is off. Close the bbq lid and heat the stone with the bbq for 25 minutes. Your stone is ready.
Prepare your pizza with all of your favourite toppings. Place the pita pizza on the stone. Cook until how you like your pizza. I find that 5 minutes is just perfect. Slice up your pizza with a pizza cutter and enjoy your delicious creation.
