topping the big mac burger
Do you remember the McDonalds commercial jingle? It goes something like this:
“Two all beef patties special sauce, lettuce, cheese – pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun Big Mac!”
Well, I play this out in my head when I am preparing the homemade Big Mac! So, just as the McDonalds jingle says here are the toppings that you will need for the Homemade Big Mac Burger:
- Homemade Big Mac Sauce
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Shredded Lettuce
- Onions finely diced and rinsed under cold water
- Dill Pickle slices or diced dill pickles
- Sesame Seed buns
Burger Talk
It’s now time to chat about the burger! Smashed burgers have hit the viral scene lately and for good reason.
They are simple to throw together, nice and thin so less fattening and they cook up quick! A recipe for success!
I love to use Ina Garten’s Famous Slider Recipe for making my burgers. They come out tasting perfect every time and use simple ingredients that you likely have in your kitchen now.
After making the burger blend, I like to shape the mix into golf ball sized meatballs and place them each separately between 2 pieces of parchment paper.
At this point you get to do the “Smashing” part of things. Smash that burger down until it is super thin. Then to a skillet, I like to add a small amount of oil and peel the burger of the parchment paper and cook 3-4 minutes per side.
Once you make that first flip on the burger, I like to add the cheddar cheese so it will melt while it is finishing up the cooking!
Then top those babies with the shredded lettuce, onion, dill pickle and repeat for a second layer! So darn GOOD!
